Bioshock 2 gains new downloadable content in August
Just last week, Take Two Games admitted that Bioshock 2, the sequel to their original smash-hit, had not moved as many units as they had hoped. Now, developer 2K has announced a new set of downloadable content called Protector Trials available August 3. Downloadable content is available over XBOX Live and the Playstation Network and requires the original game to play. However, it adds an entirely new experience. In Protector Trials, players once again take on the role of a Big Daddy, the scuba-suited, artillery-wielding protagonist of Bioshock 2. The DLC adds six new levels based on the original game, along with new unlockable bonuses like game art and videos. In addition, the pack adds seven new achievements or trophies, depending on the systemthese test players’ skills and patience in accomplishing voluntary challenges. There have previously been two other DLC packs, which focused on the online multiplayer aspect of the game. The Sinclair Solutions Test Pack added new characters, trials, and masks, as well as new melee weapons. However, controversy broke out when it was shown that the content was already stored on the game disc, and players were only paying for the file to unlock it. A second download, the Rapture Metro Map Pack, added more new maps as well as a new gameplay mode, using only golf clubs as weapons. Other bonuses included new masks, a new level cap for the multiplayer component, and new trophies. As the first pack to explicitly add to the single player experience, the Protector Trials could be a real godsend for players looking for reasons to keep the game around. Whether it will help move the new copies that Take Two had originally expected remains to be seen.
